Invasion Hero Buried At Sea. From the Coast Guard-manned assault transport, USS Middleton off the Marshall Islands, the body of a Marine, who fell in the glorious conquest of the Japanese bases, is consigned to the sea. The chaplain, at left, officiates in the last rites as comrades carefully slide the body over the rail. The Stars and Stripes cover the dead Marine until the moment his body falls to its deep resting place.
