A chicken runs off refusing to accept its fate as Jews perform the ritual of Kapparot on the eve of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, swinging a live chickens above their heads for atonement of sins before God and purification. After the sins are passed on to the poultry it is butchered for eating. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year in Judaism.
