Alfalfa can be grown successfully in every state in the Union; the soil, however, should be deep and well drained. It will not succeed on heavy, sticky clay ground, or where water stands a short distance below the surface. Before sow- ing the seed see that the ground is well prepared by being thoroughly pulverized. Any extra work put on the ground at this time will be well repaid in the crop. If sown in spring, wait until the ground is warm, sowing from 20 to 30 lbs. of seed to the acre.
