Radiosonde launch. Radiosondes are units designed to measure meteorological data when deployed on a weather balloon, and transmit that data back to a receiving station. The weather balloon is typically filled with hydrogen (red cylinders in background) and after the instruments are attached, released as shown here. This radiosonde is being used to gather data for the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. Photographed in the UK.
