A synopsis of the diseases of the eye, and their treatment : to which are prefixed, a short anatomical description and a sketch of the physiology of that organ . rse section of theright hemisphere of the brain, it was foundbroken down in its texture, and the dura materpartially absorbed at its basis, the tumor havingopened into the ventricle. The right thalamuswas much diminished in bulk, though ha^matoid fungus in the orbit was mingledwith spicula of bone, and distinct from thetumor. The dura mater to which the cyst ad-hered was continuous behind the cyst, except atthe lower part, where it was destroyed. Thedisease appeared, therefore, to be connected withthe external surface of the dura mater, and byits increase to have occasioned absorption of thebones and displacement of the eye, (which wassound, as were also the optic nerve and muscles 414 EXPLANATION OF PLATE V. of the globe,) and ultimately to have ulceratedthrough the dura mater and anterior cerebrallobe, and discharged itself into the right ven-tricle. All the nerves were sound except theolfactory; this had disappeared, together withthe aethmoid bone, on the right side. J%..
