There are some good cottages in the parish builtby Mr. Eyers, though his business consists more inexecuting repairs than in the construction of newbuildings. The greater number of artisans living in Corsleyfind employment at the workshops of one of thesetradesmen, while the remainder, or most of them,work for employers residing in other parishes. In considering the earnings of artisans it will beconvenient to include under this heading wheel-wrights, carpenters, masons, plumbers, plasterers andtilers, blacksmiths, some brickmakers, and a CORSLEY PEOPLE AND THEIR LIVING 123 Artisans Earnings. The earnings in this group usually run from 25s. per week. A few get less than this and afew get more ; none, however, receive more than week. Information given as to the earnings of plumbers,carpenters, and masons is somewhat conflicting. One informant states that the best men in thesetrades can earn 5d. to 6d. an hour ; but though thisis true for wheelwrights and carpenters, no case hasbeen found where plumbers or masons resident in theparish receive more than 4^d. per hour. Individualearnings have not, however, been ascertained in everycase, Masons. There are six masons, two masons labourers, andone plasterer and tiler (out of work) in the parish. Masons wages are 4d. to 4^d. per hour. For aweek of 56 hours this amounts to 18s. 8d. or 21s. Plumbers. There are 4 plumbers and 1 lad learning thetrade. Earnings appear to
