Hubble Mirror Under Construction

Hubble Space Telescope mirror under construction in 1984. The primary mirror measured m (8ft) in diameter and was constructed of ultra-low expansion silica glass and coated with a thin layer of aluminum to reflect visible light. Launch was set for 1986 but delayed until 1990 because of the loss of the shuttle Challenger in January of that year.
