The experience of the Commissioners hasbeen that on hauls of less than one mile the difference incost between truck and team hauling is not very great. Butcheap hauling is not the only advantage of mechanical haul-ing. Trucks thrive in hot weather and there is no falling offin work on that account. They also know nothing about the9-hour day and will work as many hours per day as thedrivers can J.^ffroy Radial Lr Extra Man Has Been Placed ferential gears, the same as in an automobile, whereby thedriving wheels act in conjunction with or independently ofeach other. By turning the steering wheel at quite an acute angleto the driving wheels, the discharge chute will remain prac-tically stationary at the center of the circle while the pick-upend of the extending elevator boom will travel in a circularpath; or by alternately reversing the propelling drive, theloader will oscillate back and forth in an arc. If the steer-ing wheel is gradually turned through a few degrees eitherway from the above circular path, the whole machine, whilecutting from right to left in an arc, will gradually move for-ward into the pile, allowing full range of the machine. Theloader has a fast speed of 60 ft. per minute for travelingfrom pile to pile and a slow speed of 4 ft. per minute forfeeding into the material. Its capacity is stated to be 1 per minute and it w
