Lord Robert Winston, English doctor and broadcaster, in front of photographs of babies born via his in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) unit. He is professor of fertility studies at London University's Imperial College School of Medicine, and a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Hammersmith Hospital, London. He was made a life peer in 1995, and serves as the chairman of the House of Lords Select Committee on science and technology. His work came to media attention in 1978 when his team created the first test tube baby, Louise Brown. He has presented numerous television documentaries, these include Making Babies and The Human Body.
