Lymphocyte. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through a lymphocyte white blood cell. Lymphocytes are involved in the immune system's defence mechanisms, lymph system and antibody production. The nucleus, which contains all the cell's genetic information is purple. Mitochondria, which produce energy for the cell, are red. The Golgi apparatus, which modifies and packages proteins, is green. Magnification: x4600 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
