Illustration and photo-reconstruction of the ancient saber-toothed cat Amphimachairodus giganteus. Amphimachairodus giganteus is an extinct genus of large machairodonts. It inhabited Eurasia and Northern Africa during the late Miocene epoch. It was about 2 metres long. Its legs were too short to sustain a long chase and so it probably hunted as an ambush predator.
