Lyon carrying largest number of American fighting men yet brought to port on one ship, the Leviathan, tied up at Pier 4, Hoboken, The ship contained 9,470 troops, mostly African Americans, including the 371st Infantry Regiment complete, the 372nd Infantry Regiment complete, part of the 368th Infantry Regiment, and 2,132 sick and wounded. Both the 371st and 372nd Infantry Regiments were decorated with Croix de Guerre and were brigaded with the French."
