The wheel was of the flange joint type, made in four sectionsand really consisted of two wheels bolted together which formed atotal rim face of 5 feet. The engine on which the exploded wheelwas mounted was of the twin type with releasing type of valve gears,both cylinders receiving steam at approximately boiler pressure.
