Gerard 'Gerry' F. Gilmore, New Zealand-born British astronomer and cosmologist. Gilmore is Professor of Experimental Philosophy and Deputy Director of the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge University. He studies stellar populations and is principal investigator for Gaia, a space mission that will provide a three-dimensional map of some 1000 million stars in the Milky Way. Here, he is at the eyepiece of the historic Northumberland Telescope dating from the 1830s. Gilmore was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 2013.
