Cyclists in Oxford St on 'Bikes not Bombs' ride to Aldermaston to join in the 50th annivesary protest at British nuclear weapons
Fifty years ago the protest agaisnt Britain's reliance on nuclear weapons (the so-called nuclear deterrent) prompted marchers from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament to make the first Aldermaston march, taking 3 days over the 50 or so miles. This year, 'Bikes not Bombs' cyclists made the journey to Aldermaston, leaving London on Saturday to join other protesters who were going to the nuclear weapons factory for a rally on Monday. It was a demonstration rather than a cycle rally, so they took a circuitous route that made them visible to shoppers and others in places such as Oxford Street, where I photographed them.
