Hewas unable to forgetthe pains that Colberthad taken to raise LeBrun and to developthe grand and prolificestablishment which hedirected. In 1685, whilethe finances were stillprosperous, he had sup-pressed the wiring ofgold and silver in thetapestries, which untilthen had been enrichedwith the precious 1686, by hisdirect order, he abruptlystopped a piece called LHistoire du Roi,for which Le Brun hadhimself madethe designs.
