Street Furniture: Wood on metal seating fixed into the granite pavement area of the Jubilee Square, Highcross, Leicester taken on 22nd January 2015. Jubilee Square, Leicester, is a £4 million scheme to transform the St Nicholas Place area into an attractive public space and gateway into the city centre. The scheme features a new open area, combining large lawns with hard landscaping, in St Nicholas Circle. The area feature trees, plants, a terraced garden and hard-standing areas that can also be used as a venue for outdoor events and festivals. There will be new seating and lighting to show off features of the buildings fronting the new square, including Wygston’s House, the oldest complete timber-framed building in the city. The space will be named Jubilee Square to mark the Queen’s visit to the city in the year of her Diamond Jubilee. Work started on site on Tuesday 27th August 2013. and is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund programme.
