The larvas and 2^iip<^ are active, and much resemble theperfect insects in shape, except that the larvae are withoutwing-cases or wings, and the pupa, although possessing wing-cases, have only rudimentary wings, (This Order is sometimes known as Dermaptera, skin-winged.) 3. OETHOPTEEA (Olivier).Cockroaches, Crickets, Grasshoppers, &c. Upper wings leathery or parchment-like, very thickly wings, which are folded lengthwise or ** straightbeneath the upper pair, large, membranous, veined, withlarger veins placed somewhat in a fan-shape.
