Castrop-Rauxel, Recklinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Erlebnispark EMSCHERLAND. View of the Suderwicher Bach stream in the direction of the industrial park on Wartburgstraße. Before renaturation, the Emscher river system was an open, above-ground wastewater channel, combined sewer with surface water and sewage. Where the Emscher, the Suderwicher Bach and the Rhine-Herne Canal meet, an intermunicipal adventure park has been created in recent years on an area of around 30 hectares. The park's offerings include a water playground, a water learning site, a perennial garden, a beekeeper's house, a meadow orchard and farm gardens, as well as the Emscher Terraces with a future vineyard. The ecological focal point at the confluence of Suderwicher Bach and Emscher will also be a future garden for the International Garden Exhibition 2027.
