Light micrograph of a section through human skin with an eccrine sweat gland (pink, down centre). This is one of two types of sweat gland found in the skin. Eccrine glands are found all over the body and release sweat, which consists of water and salt, directly on to the skin. The secretory cells are at the bottom of the gland. The secretions travel up through the duct to a pore at the skin's surface. Eccrine glands function to regulate body temperature by cooling the skin through evaporation.
