Volcanoes in Italy, illustrated map. North is at top. This map shows southern Italy and the island of Sicily (lower centre). The volcanoes are indicated by red triangles. From south to north, they are: Mount Etna (on Sicily), three volcanic islands north of Sicily (Vulcano, Salina, and Stromboli), a chain of three underwater volcanoes (from west to east: Vavilov, Marsili, and Palinuro near the Italian coast), and three volcanoes in or near the Bay of Naples (Ischia, Mount Vesuvius, and the Phlegraean Fields).
