The trackwas laid with 80-pound Trail and ballasted with gravel froma large pit near the main line. Near Lakeside Park it wasfound necessary to have a double-track cut one mile longand 25 feet deep in order that the grade might not be tooheavy at this point. In order to keep the grades less than 1 per cent in Rich-mond it was necessary to build a viaduct of considerable.
