Cooper 15 same year he began the practice of law in Franklin, Indiana. He filled manyoffices of trust and also edited a newspaper and wrote for publication. In1870 he was elected Judge of the Twenty-eighth Circuit, and in 1877 wasappointed a member of the Board of Trustees of Indiana University, serving-eleven years, seven of which he was President. In 1889 he was appointedDean of the Law School of Indiana University, which position he held at hisdeath.
