Non-healed scaphoid fracture. Coloured frontal X-ray of the wrist of a 37-year-old man with a non-healed fracture of the scaphoid bone, one of the eight carpal bones of the wrist. The scaphoid is at centre left. Scaphoid fractures are the most common wrist fracture. With the correct treatment, the fractured bone should heal. In this case, the fracture has failed to heal, resulting in a condition known as nonunion or pseudoarthrosis. Surgery will be required to restart the failed healing process.
