Release the twopieces, insert an eyelet on the loose pin and clamp lightly, just enough tohold the two pieces together. Swing the two pieces apart and punch thesecond hole in the same manner, one piece at a time. Then insert secondeyelet and clinch both eyelets. Although the punch will perforate twopieces of thin steel tape at once, it will be safer, and it will add to the lifeof the punch to proceed as described, by punching only one thickness oftape at one time. The holes can be cut near the edge of the tape, withoutany danger of splitting same, thus avoiding any chance of dirt collectingunder the splice, or cutting the fingers when drawing the tape through theh
