Distant 1902 Faun. Ind. Rh. I. 256â79 (account of 14 Indo-Sinhalese genera, with tables). â¢Horvath (1900 Termesz. fiizetek. XXIII. 339) has divided this into nine tribes, presenting the results in synoptic form; eleven are now recognized. The Tessaratominae are very sparsely neogeic, only three species being known in the new world, one however forming a monotypic tribe. The subfamily is over- powering Oriental, five-eighths of the latter being Indomalayan; it is also worthy of notice that the Indomalayan and Austromalayan forms together practically equal those of the rest of the old world. Three tribes (with eleven species) are precincti- vely Madagascan, so that the subfamily as a whole is distinctly insular. Of the other tribe!, three-fourths of the Oncomerini are Australasian, the Eusthenini and Tessaratomini are predominantly Oriental, principally Indomalayan while the Natah- colini are Continental Ethiopian, with the exception of one Australasian^ Genera.
