. Burpee's 1902 farm annual : vegetable, flower and farm seeds. Nursery stock Pennsylvania Philadelphia Catalogs; Vegetables Seeds Catalogs; Flowers Seeds Catalogs; Bulbs (Plants) Catalogs. BURPEE'S BEST EXTRA Named and introduced by us in 1889, this strain has proved to be tb earliest Pea on record. Like all other choice strains of extra early peas to which various names are given, it has been developed from tbe old standard Philadelphia Extra Early. The earliest and choicest vines being selected for stock each season, this strain has been so improved that it fully bears out our claim as the best extra early strain ever offered. The vines are quite slender, of very quick growth, averaging eighteen inches in height. They bear a heavy crop of fine well- filled pods, averaging three inches in length, nearly all of which can be gathered generally in one picking and always in two This is an important feature for market gardeners who cannot afford to go over the rows several times for small quantities of pods. Where planted exclusively, sowings should be made every week to insure a constant supply of fresh young pods. See prices quoted in price list below. ALASKA,—" CLIPPER," or LAXTON'S EARLIEST OF ALL.© This is of the same type of growth as Burpee''s Extra Early and as early in maturity, having slender vines eighteen inches in height, pods two and a half to three inches in length, well filled with small round peas. The dry seed is of a bluish color and the young peas are richer in flavor. Very popular with canners. See prices quoted below. PEAS,—Round=Seeded Extra Earlies. The earliest of all is Burpee's Best Extra Early. Nearly as early and nearly as uniform are our selected strains of Burpee's Extra Early and Philadelphia Extra Early. Both of these are much superior to stock usually sold. Alaska or "Earliest of All" is of especially fine quality being blue-seeded. Tom Thumb is still more dwarf and about a week later.
