Farmer holding silkworm cocoons on Mulberry farm in mined out opencast pit of gold mine, Ghana, West Africa

An old mined out pit is revegetated and planted with mulberry trees. This introduces Sericulture to the community - the rearing of silk worms which feed on the leaves to produce silk for cloth manufacture. This alternative livelihood project will help people in the local community with new employment oportunities and a sustainable non mining business venture when the gold runs out.
