Newport, UK. Friday 23 June 2017 First Minister for Wales Carwyn Jones. Re: First Minister for Wales Carwyn Jones has joined Sir Terry Matthews, Chairman of the Celtic Manor Resort; Stephen Bowcott, Chief Executive of Sisk Group Construction; and Debbie Wilcox, Leader of Newport City Council, to break ground on the site of the new ICC Wales. Around 80 invited guests from the public and private sectors of the events industry have also witnessed the ground breaking ceremony which marks the official start of the construction of the new venue, due to open in 2019. The dignitaries will use commemorative spades to symbolically dig the first ground on the new site, marking the start of building work in earnest.
