Scenes from the Story of Fauvel, 15th century, (1870). Fauvel (the animal-headed creature at top left) is reprimanding a widow who has married again, while being serenaded by musicians below. The name Fauvel is derived from the first letters of Flaterie, Avarice, Vilanie, Variete, Envie, Laschete. The Roman de Fauvel was written an attack on the failings of the medieval church and the political establishment.
