Tradition records it to have been the seat of Don Martin, King of Arragon. This Monarch, when apprised of his succession to the throne of John I., was absent in Sicily, engaged in the suppression of a rebellion which had broken out in that island, where his son and daughter-in-law reigned. After the subjugation of the Sicilians and the re-establishment of his son's authority Don Martin returned to take possession of his newly-acquired kingdom.
