Two replicas of paintings, called "The Judgement of Cambyses", by Gerard David adorn the wall of a historic house in the city of Oudewater, Utrecht, The Netherlands. Gerard David (c. 1460 – 13 August 1523) born in Oudewater, was an Early Dutch painter and manuscript illuminator, known for his brilliant use of color. The original painting of the Judgement of Cambyses is an oil on wood diptych, depicting the arrest and flaying of the corrupt Persian judge Sisamnes on the order of Cambyses, based on Herodotus's Histories.
