Iron works. Buildings and blast furnace of the Roger Brown Iron Company iron works, Lackawanna, New York, USA. The road in the foreground separates this site from the Main Office of the Bethlehem Steel Company, from where the photograph was taken. Dating from 1933, this photograph is from the Albert T. Keller collection of the American Iron and Steel Institute. The collection consists of historical photographs of blast furnaces used in the iron and steel industry. A blast furnace is where iron ore is heated to high temperatures in the presence of oxygen, with the carbon content controlled to produce types of steel (an alloy of iron and carbon).
