Beginning in the late 1800s, Eagle's Nest Lodge was a hunting lodge and stagecoach stop in the rugged interior of Santa Catalina Island, now a popular vacation getaway in the Pacific Ocean that is just 26 miles (42 kilometers) west of Los Angeles in Southern California, USA. Later it was a rest stop for visitors on inland motor tours of the mountainous 76-square-mile (197-square-kilometer) island. The old building became unsafe after a century of use and weather, and it will soon be relocated and restored as an interpretive center that displays Catalina's cultural and natural history.
