The Emscher river mouth into the Rhine is being relocated from Dinslaken to Voerde, almost 500 meters to the north. Fish will then be able to swim barrier-free up the new Emscher from the Rhine through a newly created floodplain. The Emscher has been completely free of wastewater since January 2022 following the construction of a parallel sewer.
