The Las Tres Virgenes (Three Virgins) geothermal field near Mulege in Baja California, Mexico

The Las Tres Virgenes geothermal field in the northern part of Baja California takes its name from the volcanic complex of three volcanoes within which it is situated. The field extends over 57 square kilometeres at an average height of just over 700m above sea level. Its heat source is believed to be the magma chamber of the youngest of the volcanoes. Two 5 MW condensing turbines were installed in 2001 and electricity produced is distributed locally in a region isolated from Mexico's national grid.
