Seeds Maryland Baltimore Catalogs; Vegetables Maryland Baltimore Catalogs; Nurseries (Horticulture) Maryland Baltimore Catalogs; Flowers Seeds Catalogs; Gardening Equipment and supplies Catalogs. Barberry Hedge Hedge Plants Barberry (Berberis) Japanese (B. Tbunbergi). This shrub has become very popular for producing low, dense hedges. Its abundant, small, light green leaves, which turn to rich colors in autumn, and its wealth of scarlet berries render it very attractive. It is ex- tremely hardy and requires but little pruning. Ornamental and graceful the year around. For hedges, set plants 1 foot apart. Extra-strong plants, 40 cts. each; %4 per doz.; $25 per 100. New Red-leaved Japanese {B. Tbunbergi atropurpurea). Similar toB. Tbunbergi, it has foliage of a lustrous, bronzy red, like the best Japanese maples. Unlike other color shrubs, which fade as the season advances, it becomes more brilliant through the summer, and in fall changes to vivid orange, scarlet, and red, more brilliant and effective than the ordinary Japanese Barberry. It bears the same brilliant scarlet berries as the type, and they remain on the plant the entire winter. All that is required to develop its brilliant color at all seasons is jull exposure to the sun. This is important. Extra-strong plants, $1 each; $10 per doz. Privet (Ligustrum) California (L. ovalifolium). This is the favorite hedge plant and when so used should be planted 6 inches apart and cut back about 6 inches above the ground. Extra-selected 2-ft. plants, $1 for 10; $7 per 100; $55 per 1,000. Regel (L. ibota Regelianum). A low, dense shrub, with almost horizontally spreading branches. The small white flowers appear along the branches in June and July followed by small black fruits often remaining throughout the winter. It will grow in almost any kind of soil and will flourish in partial shade. Extra-strong 2-ft. plants, 40 cts. each; $4 per doz.; $28 per 100. We will have a choice lot
