Frimmersdorf power station, situated in the city of Grevenbroich is the largest lignite-fired power stations in Germany. It has fourteen blocks with a total output of 2,413 megawatts (MW). The first power station in Frimmersdorf, fired with brown coal, was established in 1926 with an output of 26 megawatts. According to a study of the environment organization WWF the power station at Frimmersdorf possesses the second-strongest output of CO2 in relation to the efficiency level in Europe. The chimneys of the power station are 200 meters high.
