Onhis subsequent return to Coast GuardHeadquarters in Washington, he served asAssistant Chief Operations Officer and thenas Chief Personnel Officer until his appoint-ment as Commandant. Among the organi-zations of which he is a member are theU. S. Naval Institute, the Society of NavalEngineers, the Society of Naval Architectsand Marine Engineers, and the NewcomenSociety.
