The Petrel remained behind and completed the destruction of the small gunboats which had run inbehind Cavite Point for protection. The Spanish lost the following vessels: Sunk—Reina Christina, Castella, Don Antonio de Ulloa. No material injury was inflicted on the American ships by the enemys fire. Not a life was lost, and onlyseven men were wounded. On the day following the battle, May 1, the squadronmoved to Cavite, and on the next day the Spanish garrisonevacuated the arsenal, which was immediately occupied bya landing party. On May 2, the Raleigh and Baltimorecompelled the surrender of the garrison on CorregidorIsland, and Manila Bay and its approaches were all in thehands of the American Navy. 6.
