The former rail track crosses le viaduc du Doulovy built in1876 to take coal from the hills of the Ardeche, France.


The viaduct de Doulevy is in the Ardeche department of France. Today the area is wooded and used by tourists to hike and enjoy the countryside. However in the 19th century the area was valley is spanned by 24 arches, the highest being 35 metres. The line that crossed the viaduct was 80 cm wide. .given over to coal mining. The mining was centred on the town of Banne anfd the Compagnie Houilerre de Banne. The viduct was built in 1876. It is 235 metres long and metres wide. The original wagons were horse drawn but these were replaced by mechanical power in 1920. Today the viaduct can be crossed by walkers who have come to visit the remains of the old mines in the area. The mine remains are well managed and two paths take visitors around the old site. Educational panels and explanations can be found along the way.
