Visitors lying on a bed like platform, while overhead images of the night skies in Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan are projected at Astro Noise, the first solo exhibit by artist Laura Poitras at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City on February 3, 2016. Later in the exhibit thermal images captured while people lay in this room, are displayed. Poitras, a filmmaker, artist and journalist best known for helping to break the Edward Snowden story, created the exhibition as an immersive multimedia experience examining topics such as mass surveillance, the war on terror, the Drone Program, Guantanamo Bay Prison, occupation and torture. Some of these topics have been investigated in films including CITIZENFOUR, which won the 2015 Academy Award for Best Documentary, and in her reporting which won the Pulitzer Prize.
