Glaciology at Mont Blanc weather station. Glaciologist obtaining an ice core at the weather station on the col of the Dome du Gouter, a peak that is a shoulder of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe. This is the highest weather station in Europe, at an elevation of 4200 metres. The temperature of the ice here averages minus 11 degrees Celsius. A relatively large warming of degrees has been observed over 15 years. Photographed in July 2012.
