Studied at Leipsic Conservatory under Wilhelm Stengel and then became his wife. Made debut in 1877 as singer in I Puritani. Visted US first in 1883. Her greatest successes were in Mozart's operas and has sung in Barber of Seville, Martha, La Traviata, La Sonnambula.
