The spermatic veins leave the back part of the testis, and, receiving branchesfrom the epididymis, unite to form a plexus (pampiniform plexus) which formsthe chief mass of the cord. They pass up in front of the vas deferens, and unite to THE TESTES. 969 form a single trunk, which terminates on the right side in the inferior vena cava, onthe left side in the left renal vein. The lymphatics are of large size, accompany the blood-vessels, and terminate inthe lumbar glands. The nerves are the spermatic plexus from the sympathetic. This plexus isderived from the renal and aortic plexuses, joined by filaments from the hypo-gastric plexus which accompany the artery of the vas deferens. Fig. 648. Arteryof Cord TanJea Vaginalis, qpartetal layi. Testes. The Testes are suspended in the scrotum by the spermatic cords. Each glandis of an oval form, compressed laterally and having an oblique position in the scro-tum ; the upper extremity being directed forwardand a little outward; the lower, backward and alittle inward ; the anterior convex border looks for-ward and downward; the posterior or straight bor-der, to which the cord is attached, backward andupward. The anterior and lateral surfaces, as well as bothextremities of the organ, are convex, free, smooth, and invested by the tunica vaginalis. The posteriorborder, to which the cord is attached, receives onlya partial investment from that membrane. Lyingupon the outer edge of this border is a long, narrow, flattened body, named, from its relation to the testis, the epididymis {dcoufxoz, testis). It consists of acentral portion, or body ; an upper enlarged extrem-ity, the globus major, or head ; and a lower pointedextremity, the tail, or globus
