Vancouver, B. 0.—A. D. Berry has purchased the business, good will and stock in trade of the R. C. McNaugh- ton Co., 2184 Fourth avenue west, and also the greenhouses of the Bodeville road florist, Joseph Blackburn. San Jose, Cal.—W. D. Clarke, sales manager of the Cottage Gardens Nurs- eries for the last five years, will start in business for himself January 1 as a broker in bulbs, plants, roses and gen- eral nursery stock. His headquarters will be at San Jose. Mr. Clarke expects to continue handling the Cottage Gar- dens Nurseries' products on the Pacific coast, although on an independent basis. Mr. Clarke is one of the best known men in the nursery trade in Cali- fornia and his many friends wish him every success. LOS ANGELES, CAL. The Market. The market has said good-bye to mums for this season, but everyone in the market is satisfied. They like to see them come and they like just as well to see them go. Poinsettias are arriving to take the place of mums and the mar- ket seems to be putting on a Christ- mas appearance. Carnations are more plentiful, but are bringing good prices. Indications are that there will be a good crop for Christmas. The retailers report good business, there having been several large funerals last week. Various Notes. Tom Wright, of Wright's Flower Shop, had some unusual business re- cently when he received two orders in one day for casket palls of orchids and pink roses, as well as a wreath consist- ing of over 100 orchids, and a number of other smaller pieces. Paul Eeke reports that his fifteen acres of poinsettias are now in full bloom and that they are in fine condi- tion for shipping. He is receiving many orders for weekly and Cliristmas ship- ping.
