Shown here are the thick cuticle (red), outer cortex (black-yellow), parenchyma cells (green) of the inner cortex, endodermis (black) and pericycle (yellow). At centre is the metaxylem with long thick tracheid vessels (red) and protoxylem (small vessels, red). The xylem is surrounded by the phloem sieves tube cells (yellow).
