Scenopinus vitripennis Meigen Figure 22 Scenopinus vitripennis Meigen, 1824, p. 115.—Trojan, 1956, p. 1-10. This species has been synonymized with S. glabrifrons by a number of the earlier workers. On the basis of the wing venation, however, Trojan (1956) showed that vitripennis is a valid species. It is most easily identified as a brown haltered glabrifrons-\ike species. The formation of the eighth sternum and bursa further confirm Trojan's evidence that this is a different species; see figure. The only known male of this species is presumed lost. Specimens identifiable to this species have been found in a number of European collections and come from Eastern Europe. Length: Female body mm., wing mm. Type-locality: Austria (Megerle).
