The Britishcolumn soon wavered, Gen. Packenham fell, and the entire British armyfled in dismay, leaving 700 dead, and more than 1,000 wounded on thefield. The Americans were so safely entrenched that they lost only sevenkilled and six wounded. Joseph Bonaparte, brother of the Emperor,came to the United States as Count de Survilliers, and purchased 1,500acres of land in Bordentown, N. J., and settled down to the life of anopulent gentleman.
