Two people are seen using the cash machine at Sainsbury's supermarket in London. Supermarkets and convenience stores will no longer have to pay millions of pounds in business rates for cash machines outside their shops, following a ruling by the Court of Appeal. Since 2010 supermarkets and convenience stores have been liable to pay rates on the machines and the Court of Appeal ruled that about £300m has already been charged and will now have to be refunded. The shops that will immediately benefit include Sainsburys and Tesco, which had taken the case to appeal.
